ResearchHub Partners with Center for Open Science to Enhance Peer Review in Lifecycle Journal
Launching in January 2025, the collaboration between ResearchHub and the Center for Open Science aims to accelerate scientific discovery by integrating ResearchHub's incentivized peer review system with the COS’ Lifecycle Journal. Our goal is to foster a more transparent and efficient publication model.
The Lifecycle Journal is an experiment in academic publishing that facilitates complete transparency into the entire research lifecycle. Projects start with a preregistration and are continually updated with real time experimental data. Once ready for publication, authors publish a preprint of their findings that undergoes open peer review incentivized by ResearchHub.
Since its founding in 2013, the Center for Open Science (COS) has been a leading force in the push for better reproducibility, accessibility, and integrity of scientific research. Renowned for its efforts to empirically test the reproducibility of studies in fields such as psychology and cancer biology, COS has significantly contributed to promoting openness and transparency in science.
We are honored to collaborate with such an accomplished team to advance these ideals.
Details of the Partnership
The Center for Open Science (COS) is conducting a three-year research and development project called Lifecycle Journal, aiming to revolutionize scholarly communication. This initiative introduces a Diamond Open Access model that emphasizes publish-before-review, transparent and open peer review, and the recognition of data, materials, and code as primary scholarly outputs. By fostering community-based governance and scholar-led editorial teams, Lifecycle Journal seeks to empower the academic community, transforming journals into effective facilitators of knowledge production and self-correction.
Last year, ResearchHub completed 3,204 reviews with an average of 10 days from preprint to peer review. Through this partnership, submissions to Lifecycle Journal will be seamlessly integrated into ResearchHub's platform, where peer review bounties will be assigned to encourage qualified researchers to provide timely and thorough evaluations. The objective is to complete peer reviews within 14 days, significantly expediting the traditional review timeline. Completed reviews will be prominently featured on both platforms, ensuring that high-quality research is disseminated efficiently and transparently.
This partnership between the Center for Open Science and ResearchHub represents a significant advancement in scholarly publishing. By combining COS's innovative Lifecycle Journal with ResearchHub's efficient peer review system, we aim to create a more transparent, rigorous, and community-driven publication process. We invite the global research community to engage with this initiative, contribute to the evolving landscape of scholarly communication, and join us in our mission to accelerate the pace of scientific research.
